Terms
These terms cover the KeyMic desktop application, this website, and the optional Pro subscription. Using any of them means you accept what follows.
The software is open source
KeyMic is licensed under AGPL-3.0. That licence governs your rights to use, modify and redistribute the software, and it takes precedence over anything on this page where the two disagree. You can read the full text in the repository.
Notably, AGPL-3.0 is a copyleft licence: if you distribute a modified version, or run one as a network service, you must make your source available under the same terms.
Accounts
An account is optional — the app works without one. If you create one, you are responsible for keeping access to it secure, and you must be old enough to enter a contract where you live. We may suspend an account that is being used to attack the service or others.
You can revoke any device’s access from your dashboard, and you can ask us to delete the account entirely — see Privacy.
Pro subscription
Downloading and using KeyMic is free. A Pro subscription is available and is billed through Stripe, which handles payment details — we never see your card. Subscriptions renew until cancelled, and cancelling stops the next renewal while leaving your access in place until the end of the paid period.
If a subscription does not do what you expected, email lorne@keymic.io and we will sort out a refund. We would rather do that than argue about it.
Acceptable use
Do not use KeyMic to capture other people’s input without their knowledge, to break into systems you are not authorised to access, or to disrupt this service for others. The app requires powerful macOS permissions; using them against someone else is on you, not on the tool.
No warranty
KeyMic is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, as set out in the AGPL-3.0 text. It runs an event tap and touches your clipboard; it may have bugs. We do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose, and to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost data, lost work or other damages arising from using it. Keep backups of anything you cannot afford to lose.
Service availability
The desktop app keeps working offline regardless of what happens to this website. Account features — sign-in, settings sync, subscription status — depend on our servers and may be unavailable during maintenance or outages.
Changes
We may update these terms; the date at the top reflects the last change, and the commit history shows exactly what changed. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
